Christ is risen! You shouldn't be able to lie about someone and get away with it. This kalami situation is one of the most flagrant examples I've seen in my life. I knew these were lies right off the bat knowing these accused men personally, in both public and private life.   
This recent pronouncement of Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem surprised me. I couldn’t even begin to grasp in what capacity the Patriarch of Jerusalem is “the guarantor of the unity of the Orthodox Church” so I’ll only address what is obvious. His subtle modification and replacement of “Church of Jerusalem” for “Zion” in an explicit ecclesial innovation. The distinction is a deviation from long-held understandings of the Orthodox Church’s precedence and protocol. The church (Patriarchate) of Jerusalem is “in Zion,” it is not Zion.

In this joyful Paschal season and at a time of great confidence for positive transformation in our Orthodox church worldwide, the need to convey my deep disappointment in the Archdiocesan Council has become manifest. I found the Archdiocesan Council’s May 9th Letter and May 10th Resolution to the Ecumenical Patriarchate to be unconvincing, insolent, and counterproductive. The council has proved inadequate to its responsibilities and now endeavors to over compensate with a veiled strong-arm resolution. |
